Mayor James A. McClinton’s Thoughts on
Optimization Study Results
The Management Partners’ (MP) study that was released Friday contained
a wealth of information, so I’m going to try and organize my response
to cover the salient points. First of all, I want to thank the City Council
for their vision in commissioning the study. Even though it was approved
before I became Mayor, I would like to think that, had I still been a
City Council member then, I would have voted for it. Because no matter
how good an operation we think we run, it’s always good to have
a fresh set of eyes... Click

Mayor's Thoughts on Form of Government
The City Council is scheduled to debate and vote on whether to consider
changing the current Strong Mayor form of Topeka’s government.
One of the proposed changes would be to change to a City Manager form
of local government. As I have stated in the past, “The key to
good government is not what form it takes, but having good people who
are the custodians of it. Either form of government will succeed if
you, the voters, elect decent, dedicated officials who are qualified
and a good match for their jobs. No form of government will work if
your officials are not working together.” Recent research... Click

Successes and awards from the revitalization of Topeka’s Monroe
neighborhood are but the first of many such efforts focusing on neighborhood
improvement, according to Mayor James A. McClinton. “When I announced
in my State of the City address in January my intention to improve one
neighborhood at a time, I meant it. We’re continuing to improve
Monroe, and when we’re done with that, we’re focusing on
the next neighborhood. All of us in Topeka need a safe and comfortable
neighborhood in which to live, work, worship, and play. We’re committed
to making that a reality.” Click
